What happens

1. Assessment. Examination, X-rays and records of your teeth and bite. You get the plan, the options and the cost.
2. Fitting. Braces are fixed to the teeth, or your first set of aligners is given.
3. Regular reviews. The doctor checks progress and adjusts the treatment at each visit.
4. Retainers. Once the teeth are in place, a retainer holds them there. Wearing it as advised is what keeps the result.

Invisalign clear aligners

Invisalign uses a series of clear, removable trays made for your teeth. Each set moves the teeth a little, and you change to the next set as the doctor advises. They are hard to see, and you take them out to eat and to brush.

Aligners work only if they are worn for most of the day, every day. The doctor will tell you honestly whether aligners or fixed braces suit your teeth better.

Looking after your teeth during treatment

Food collects easily around braces and under aligners. Brush after meals, clean between the teeth, and cut down on sticky and sugary food so the teeth stay healthy while they move.
