Root canal treatment in Tolichowki

Root canal treatment removes an infected or badly inflamed nerve from inside a tooth, cleans the canals and seals them. You keep your own tooth instead of losing it.

Signs you may need it

• Toothache that wakes you at night or lasts after hot or cold food
• Pain when you bite on the tooth
• Swelling of the gum or face near a tooth
• A tooth that has turned dark after an injury

Only an examination and an X-ray can confirm it. Sometimes a filling is enough.

What happens

1. Numbing. The tooth is numbed with local anaesthesia before anything else.
2. Cleaning. The infected nerve is removed and the canals are cleaned and shaped.
3. Sealing. The canals are filled and sealed so bacteria cannot get back in.
4. Protecting the tooth. Back teeth usually need a crown afterwards, because a root-treated tooth can crack when you chew.

Most root canals need one to three visits. The doctor tells you the number for your tooth before starting.

After treatment

Some soreness for a few days is normal and settles with the painkillers the doctor advises. Avoid chewing hard food on that side until the tooth is crowned.
